Assigning an XV-2020 patch to a Logic MIDI track
Prerequisites
- You have created a Roland layer (We named it Roland_2) in the Environment. If not, here's how.
- You have loaded a bank of XV-2020 patches (such as Preset-A) into an Environment bank. If not, here's how.
Procedure
- In Logic's Environment window, go to the Roland_2 layer, and select the Roland Synth multi-intrument. Now set the desired bank number in the left side bar by checking the Program box, then click on the hyphen.
- Go to Logic's Arrange window, click-hold on the name of a MIDI track, select the Roland_2 layer, the Roland Synth multi-instrument, and one of the 16 instrument channels.
- Still in the Arrange window, click on the track's name, and in the left side bar, confirm that the Channel number is the value you set in Step 2.
- Immediately under the Channel number, check the Program box, and set the desired values for the bank number (click on the hyphen) and program number.
- On the KeyStation, set the MIDI channel number for sends to the same value you set in Step 2: push the Advanced Functions button and depress the appropriate key -- e.g., key D1 gives Channel 1.
- We now set-up the XV-2020 in Performance mode, so we can hear any and all 16 subchannels of the Roland multi-instrument.
- On the XV-2020, repeatedly push VALUE until only the PERFORM indicator is lit.
- Turn CATEGORY/BANK to PST-B.
- Turn VALUE to 14.
- In Logic's Arrange window, click on the track name of the MIDI track you chose in Step 2. You should now be able to play the KeyStation, hear the patch you selected, record to the MIDI track, and play back your recording.
Troubleshooting
- If you've done all the above correctly, but the synth seems to produce no sound, here are simple things to test. Checks
