Assigning an XV-2020 drum kit
to a Logic MIDI track

Prerequisites
  1. You have created a Roland layer (We named it Roland_2) in the Environment. If not, here's how.
  2. You have loaded a drum kit from a XV-2020 rhythm set (such as R&B kit in Preset-A) into an Environment bank. If not, here's how.
Procedure
  1. In Logic's Environment window, go to the Roland_2 layer, and select the desired mapped-intrument, such as the one we named PS-A1 R&B Kit. Now set the bank number in the left side bar by checking the Program box, then click on the hyphen. (We used bank = 7 for the R&B kit in Preset-A).
  2. Go to Logic's Arrange window, click-hold on the name of a MIDI track, select the Roland_2 layer and select PS-A1 R&B Kit.
  3. Still in the Arrange window, click on the track's name, and in the left side bar, confirm that the Channel number = 10.
  4. Immediately under the Channel number, check the Program box, and set the bank number = 7 (click on the hyphen) and program number = 0 (no, not 1, but 0).
  5. On the KeyStation, set the MIDI channel number for sends to 10: push the Advanced Functions button and depress the F2 key.
  1. We now set-up the XV-2020 in Performance mode, so we can hear any and all 16 subchannels of the Roland multi-instrument.
    1. On the XV-2020, repeatedly push VALUE until only the PERFORM indicator is lit.
    2. Turn CATEGORY/BANK to PST-B.
    3. Turn VALUE to 14.
  2. In Logic's Arrange window, click on the track name of the MIDI track you chose in Step 2. You should now be able to play the KeyStation, hear the drum kit, and record to the MIDI track.
Troubleshooting

If you've done all the above correctly, but the synth seems to produce no sound, here are simple things to test. Checks
