Setting Up Logic Environment for
XV-2020 Patch Banks
- Power up the XV-2020 synth.
- Open Logic Express 7.
- In the top drop-down menu, select Windows --> Environment.
- Create a new environment layer by selecting Create in the current layer's name box in the left side bar of the environment window. An empty layer appears with unnamed in the name box.
- Double-click on unnamed and give the layer a name; e.g., "Roland_2". Click anywhere in the empty layer.
- Create a new multi-instrument by selecting Multi Instrument from the layer's drop-down menu: New --> Multi Instrument. A multi-instrument icon appears in the layer.
- Give the new multi-instrument a name.
- Click once at the top of the new multi-instrument to select it. A new panel appears in the left side bar.
- In the side bar, click once on (Multi Instr.) and type in a name, such as "Roland Synth".
- Activate each of the multi-instrument's 16 sub-channels by clicking once on each number 1-16 in the multi-instrument icon.
- Select the multi-instrument and ensure in the left side bar that Channel = All. If it is not, double-click on the channel number and change it to "0", which sets the channel to "All".
- With the multi-instrument still selected, in the left side bar select Port = Roland XV-2020. Here's what you should have at this point:
- If you have already loaded a bank of XV-2020 patches into an Environment bank, you can now assign a bank patch to a Logic MIDI track. Here's how.
- If you have not yet loaded an XV-2020 bank into the Environment, here are instructions for loading a bank.
- Next you probably want to assign an XV-2020 Rhythm Set to a Mapped Drum instrument. Here are those instructions.
