Driving the XV-2020
directly from the KeyStation

  1. Set the switch on the A/B box so the speakers are receiving audio from the XV-2020 and not from the computer.
  2. Power up the XV-2020, the KeyStation, and the speakers.
  3. Match the MIDI channel on keystation to that on XV-2020. Let's choose channel 1.
    1. On the keystation, push the Advanced Functions button (a blue light appears).
    2. On the keystation, depress key D1 to select channel 1 (the blue light goes out). Note: the white keys from D1 to E3 each select one of the 16 available channels; e.g., F2 is channel 10, E3 is channel 16.
    3. On the XV-2020, press VALUE repeatedly until just the PATCH indicator is lit.
    4. On the XV-2020, turn PART to 1. (This sets the XV-2020 to receive on MIDI channel 1)
  4. Select a Patch (an instrument) to sound on the XV-2020. (Page 35 of Owner's Manual)
    1. On the XV-2020, press VALUE repeatedly until just the PATCH indicator is lit.
    2. Turn CATEGORY/BANK to select a patch bank. The choices are USER, PST-A, PST-B, PST-C, PST-D, GM. Banks EXP-A and EXP-B are available only if you have installed bank expansion cards. Bank GM is the General Midi-2 set of instruments. Each bank contains 128 patches (instruments); a complete list is on pages 124-129 of the Owner's Manual.
    3. Turn VALUE to select a particular patch.
  1. Example: If you set CATEGORY/BANK = USER and VALUE = 001, then sounds from the keystation should sound like a grand piano. If you set CATEGORY/BANK = PST-A and VALUE = 064, then sounds from the keystation should sound like vibes.
  2. TroubleShoot: If you get no sound from the keystation or if the sounds made by the examples in Step 5 are not the correct ones, then try initializing the XV-2020: Perform the Factory Reset procedure.
